On August 1, 2009 I woke up to a call that has changed my life forever. I actually missed the phone and heard a message from my grandmother telling me that my mom had a heart attack. I immediately started thinking about packing and getting to the hospital, I wanted to be there when she came out of surgery... I was also thinking, a heart attack?? Are they sure? Well, I called back and heard these words "Baby, she died". One year later and my heart is still broken. There was no trip to the hospital for her, no second chance. Until that day, I had no idea about the risk for heart disease in women. Now I am committed to doing everything in my power to raise awareness. Losing someone you love is not how we should learn, please take care of yourself and encourage the women in your life to do the same. My mom was 47 years old and had no previous heart symptoms. I miss her everyday.
