On Monday, May 18 in 2009, after spending a busy morning gardening and cooking, my Mom sat down on the couch and was enjoying a bit of chatting and relaxation with my Dad. As he dozed off, she had a heart attack, and he awoke to find that she had quietly passed away while right there beside him. She had diabetes and high blood pressure, but had not been checked for a blockage. A month before she had mentioned that she was having an odd pain in her left shoulder but thought that maybe she had hurt it in the garden. She did not go to the doctor and have it checked out. We all wish that she had just gone to the doctor and not waited. Our father passed away less than a year later, despondent over losing his wife over 50 years. It is so sad that she did not recognize the signs of a heart problem, or if she did, she did not choose to go to the doctor. We all miss her terribly. With the holidays coming up, it is especially hard to think of trying to celebrate without her and Dad.
