Nine years ago come this May, I had open heart surgery. I never thought that I would be one of those people but I am. I am a mother of three. I had been to the doctor for a check-up and was doing just fine and then one day I was working at my job and it hit me like someone had just sat down on my chest and would not get off. I went and asked my boss if I could open the window of the room I was working in so I could get some air. She said, “What time is your appointment?” I told her and she said to me to get out of here and get to the doctor. When I got there, I told my doctor the symptoms and he said, “Have you ever had a stress test?” I said no, so he said, “Well you are going to get one.” The next day I was on the treadmill for the stress test and other tests that they put you through. What they saw, they did not like. They sent me to my cardio heart doctor and he sent me for a cath. The doctor who did the cath came to talk to me and told me what they found and said surgery would be done on Friday. I asked if I could go home for that one day and he said NO! Afterward he told me if he had let me go home I could have had a major heart attack and I would not have survived. I am so glad that my doctor didn’t listen to me, because if he had I might not have been sitting here writing this today and enjoying my lovely grandchildren. I thank God every day for the second chance he gave me. I know that sounds stupid but it wasn’t stupid to me. It was my life and I wanted to live and I am living it today. I thank you God and I thank the doctors who listened to my cry for help.
